8 months old today!

Caleb's newest obsession is with the stairs! Climbing upstairs very quickly is easy for Caleb, but he has not yet learned the skill of getting back down safely.... making mom and dad rather nervous when he is practicing his new skill! Every piece of furniture in the house is used by Caleb for pulling up to stand daily - his legs are getting very strong. In fact, he is so confident in his ability to stand that he often lets his hands go and falls on his diapered bum a few seconds later!

We are trying to introduce more interesting foods to Caleb like avocado, tofu, yogurt, cheese, fruit puffs, cheerios... he is interested, but mom and dad daily wonder, "where are those teeth?!".

Peek-a-boo, you can't catch me!
At the top!! I did it!

Here I go - watch me!

Our family on a visit to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography...

Caleb and dad enjoyed checking out the marine life in the tide pool.

Hello little fishes....
At first Caleb did not know what to make of the exhibits, but he seemed to get the idea that we were just there to observe. The bright tropical fish caught his attention the most!

Too cool for school!

Caleb exploring around...

... he gets into all sorts of mischief and makes messes everywhere he goes!

Grandpa Hambly brought this hat all the way from Taiwan for Caleb way back when he was born - it was too big then, but we rediscovered it in Caleb's toy box today! Those people who regularly check our sites may remember that grandpa H. also brought a hat for cousin Michael, too.... the resemblance between these two boys is particularly striking in these photos (Caleb left, Michael right, for those who can't tell!), taken at approximately the same age.

Littering toys all around
What a curl!

Caleb and mom have been going to a play group at JW Tumbles, a local kid's gym, so Caleb can have some fun and meet other babies.

Here is Caleb and the class teacher, Mark.

Caleb is pretty shy and reserved most of the time, but during circle time at one point, he crawled away from mommy to grab some toys.

Hanging out in a swing with a new buddy!

Caleb's such a big boy now, he had to graduate to a big boy travel seat:

He seems pretty comfy!

The standing business...
Caleb loves to stand up in his crib!

Grandma Hambly is headed back to Seattle now... we sure will miss you lots. Caleb will miss you taking care of him everyday.... thanks for coming to stay and play! Come back again soon.

What's new:
Here is Caleb exploring the previously "forbidden" tiled area of the house. He was excited to be set "free" from the carpeted area for the first time. The difference is the new Bees Knees pants that Grandma Tsang sent from Toronto! The cushy knee pads built into the pants help absorb shock and protect Caleb's little knees. They are a tad too big right now, but they are really cute and highly recommended: http://www.beeskneesbaby.com (invented in Mississauga, too!)
Caleb exploring the dining room area

Also, Caleb pulled himself up to standing in his crib today! We predict wakeful nights of him practicing this new skill in the middle of the night.... here he is kneeling after his afternoon nap, waiting for someone to get him.

Having some fun

7 months old!
This baby is on the move... his crawling is getting very steady and speedy! Naptimes have become challenging because Caleb prefers to practice his crawling skills in his crib - we have caught him up on all fours rocking back and forth, half asleep with his eyes closed. He has managed to get to the sitting position from lying down, but no one has witnessed how he does it, since it only happens after his naps! Mealtimes are enjoyable for Caleb most of the time - the only food he has adamantly rejected is banana babyfood. Favourite playthings include an old unused keyboard to bang on, an old unused remote control to chew and bang on, a Fisher Price dinosaur with roll-around balls, and the perennial favourite - the exersaucer!
The other day we had a Californian "winter storm" - i.e. a little bit of rain - so we put this cute hat on Caleb. Aunt Amie gave it to him when he was born! Seems like just yesterday.
